Turn your favorite fall activities into a Breakout EDU game using Adobe Express in the Game Design Studio
Carve out some time for fall fun!
Fall is full of fun activities! Corn mazes, pumpkin farms, hayrides, trick or treating, carving pumpkins… the list goes on and on. These seasonal festivities are ripe for Breakout EDU game design.
Creating games for your classroom shouldn’t be complicated; the only puzzles should be the ones you create! The Breakout EDU Game Design Studio makes creating unique games as easy as pumpkin pie, especially when you sprinkle in Adobe Express!
Bring your imagination
The first step in the game design process is to use your imagination to craft an exciting storyline that motivates students to complete a challenge.
A great storyline:
provides purpose
engages players
weaves clues together
moves the game forward
Take inspiration from seasons and holidays. Here is an example for fall:
Jack Skellington has been kidnapped! If he is not returned to Halloweentown by 8:00 pm on Halloween night, there will be no tricks (or treats) for any children this year! The only clue to his whereabouts was found near a large pile of leaves - a locked box with Jack’s bony handprint on it. Can you follow the clues to open the box and discover where Jack is before Halloween is ruined?
Once you have a story, give your game a short, fun title such as “Jack’s Unbe-leaf-able Adventure.”
Think Through the Process
With a story and title in order, it’s time to think through puzzles and lock combinations. Regardless of what you choose, the puzzles should fit the theme of your game and follow the story so that players have to do some thinking along the way! The Breakout EDU Game Design Studio gives you the option to use images, text, or video clips.
For the Jack Skellington storyline, you could use colorful ghosts to represent a combination for a color lock or shaped headstones to show a shape combination.
Thinking through your ideas in advance ensures all pieces of the puzzle come together at the end for an eerie-sistable gaming experience.
Start Designing!
Once the storyline is written and puzzles are planned, you’re only a few clicks away from publishing your games. The integration between Breakout EDU and Adobe Express makes creating inside the Game Design Studio easy and fun.
Once a lock type is selected, click the ‘Create with Adobe Express’ icon on the right side of the screen to unlock templates, photos, designs, backgrounds, shapes, and more. Find ideas and inspiration in the Templates menu, or add some flair with Design Elements.
Once your puzzle is ready, simply insert it (and the combination!) into the game. And don’t worry - all games created with Adobe Express Game Design Studio are fully editable at any time.“We Broke Out”
The final step is to Breakout, which means celebrating victory with a spook-tacular end-of-game sign! You can use one of the premade “We Broke Out” signs or design one of your own with Adobe Express. It doesn’t matter what you choose so long as your class has fun celebrating breaking out!
