Build Coding and Problem-Solving Skills with Breakout EDU
Join us in celebrating Computer Science Education Week, taking place from December 9–15, 2024. This annual event is all about inspiring K-12 students to explore computer science, advocating for equity in computer science education, and celebrating the remarkable contributions of students, teachers, and partners shaping the future of technology.
WHY COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION MATTERS
Why is this so critical? In today’s world, knowledge of computer science is as fundamental as reading or math. These skills prepare them for a future where technological fluency is key to success.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 13% from 2020 to 2030, a much faster rate than average for all other occupations. With the increasing integration of cutting-edge technology in sectors such as healthcare, finance, and manufacturing, the demand for roles like software developers, computer systems analysts, and information security analysts continues to rise. Emerging fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning are also opening up new career opportunities, making computer science knowledge more essential than ever.
So, how can we help students build the skills they’ll need for these high-demand roles? By introducing computer science concepts and encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and resilience in classrooms today.
Breakout EDU coding and STEM-focused interactive games challenge students to think critically, solve puzzles, and work together to achieve success. The games go beyond rote memorization or easily searchable answers. They immerse students in dynamic challenges that require real-world thinking, perseverance, and teamwork to unlock success.
Instructional Coach Jenny Barreau said it best:
“[With Breakout EDU] students can't just Google the answer. There is REAL thinking, and collaboration to be successful. Grit and perseverance are tested in all situations with a high feeling of success when the box or lock is opened. I LOVE that!
CONNECT COMPUTER SCIENCE CONCEPTS WITH BREAKOUT+
Breakout+ games are unique educational digital escape room experiences that immerse your students in point-and-click adventures. Set in a high-tech toy factory, the newest game Tinkertech Toys: AI Mayhem introduces students to the challenges and possibilities of AI through interactive puzzles and problem-solving tasks. Students develop essential skills like logic, deductive reasoning, algebraic thinking, and observation while navigating challenges posed by "Bitsy," the factory's mischievous AI bot. By blending storytelling with skill-building, AI Mayhem empowers students to connect computer science concepts to everyday applications in an engaging and meaningful way.
CHALLENGE STUDENTS WITH COMPUTER SCIENCE DIGITAL GAMES
Breakout EDU Digital Games challenge students to solve a series of puzzles and enter in the correct lock combination for each one. Here are four Digital Games that will introduce your students to key computer science concepts such as debugging, logic, and algorithmic thinking:
HASPY & LOCKIT: PIXEL PALS - Haspy & Lockit are ready to take off on another adventure, but first they need to check their operating systems. All is A-okay with Haspy, but even though Lockit has been re-booted, her pixels are a bit off. Haspy needs to check Lockit’s code and update her system. Help Haspy navigate Lockit’s intranet and re-program her pixels!
CODE, CODE WORLD - Our Code, the Code that lets us access the internet and communicate with our friends, listen to music, and watch videos has been messed with! Someone has played a trick and added a Jenga Code! If we remove the Jenga Code, our entire program will collapse, which means no Internet for who knows how long! We need to carefully fix our code to save our Internet access, keep it from collapsing and Breakout!
EVERYDAY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE - We noticed a few curiosities lately. Our favorite bakery suddenly knew just the kind of cake we liked, we were sent ads for video games and toys, and the local merchants seemed to recognize us.
GAMING GLITCH - It is once again game time! Time to grab the controllers and work our way through level after level, collect gems and add our name to the top of the scoreboard. (Kit-Required)
